I can't really disagree with you as far as the bolting of the horse is concerned (or with zotz above), but I still feel HTML rendering of email is Bad and Wrong.
I think I'd only change my mind if it was possible to get rid of web-bugs (which only a marketing person could love), and ensure that there was a magic method of preventing the execution of malicious content (which no-one in their right mind could want - if they but knew it).
