I have just discovered a piece of display code using an application-wide object, which our entire system assumes is immutable, as a nice convenient place to put a value so that a method several layers down the call chain can access it.

Those who don't understand the above, take my word for it: this is really evil, and really subtle. A screw-up like this takes talent.
