Computer opponents in RTS games seem to be very adept at selecting individual units and assigning them combat targets.
That's one of the things that computers will always be better at. Unfortunately, no RTS I've ever seen has the long-term strategic vision of a human player - they're awful at it and you can learn exactly what they'll do pretty quickly. I suppose there has to be some way that they can challenge you.
It would be better if they could properly simulate a human player. If they were time-limited in how quickly they could give units commands, that would help, but in practice they would probably still be better since they can evaluate the options for individual units more quickly.
