The Independent is reporting that "a senior whitehall source" has dismissed Dr Kelly as "a Walter Mitty" fantasist, who exaggerated his role and knowledge when talking to reporters, and then misled the MOD about his contacts with journalists.
So the government's main defence in the Hutton enquiry is to savage the reputation of a dead man, and say "it's all his fault"?
Even if the Government is right*, this stinks.
*Which, right now, I believe about as far as I could throw the Houses of Parliament.
[via the BBC, who are reporting that Downing Street is distancing itself from that "senior whitehall source" as fast as the spin machine can go]
