Our first Worldcon, and we both had a good time, despite [livejournal.com profile] calatrice being somewhat under the weather for most of the weekend due to a cold, and the complete absence of reasonably-priced cider from the con bars. (Many thanks to the Finns for having some well-chilled bottles of reasonable stuff at their party on Sunday night)

Somehow, I even managed to not be a complete physical wreck this morning...

Good to bump into you. Briefly.

The feeling is mutual. My contact with many people was far-too-brief, mostly because I seemed to spend almost the entire con I running around like a blue-assed fly (and the rest collapsed in a heap going "bleh").

Don't panic, she had it before arrival, so all present were presumed innocent on that score.

I thought that having Magners Cider, which here is known as Bulmers in Pint Bottles was an absolute life saver. Its not as good as a local brew from Taunton, buts its not bd either, IMHO. Not sure on price mind, everything was in pounds and pence, but felt cheaper than here. J

I'd never heard of the stuff. It did grow on me somewhat over the weekend, but it's rather sweet for my taste, and the prices were steep, even for a hotel bar - £3.50 for a <400ml bottle? Ouch.

Still, we had a good time, which is what counts.

Should have gone to the Welsh party they had both Welsh Cider and Perry available both very drinkable, also real cider not the pasturised and recarbonated stuff sold in the bars.

Early July next year Hereford Beer Festival over 20 local Ciders and Perries, some from farms which if you are not local say they do not make it.

Arg. I really was depressingly bad at circulating around the parties.

And the very idea of a Hereford cider festival sounds very tempting indeed - my mum's side of the family is from around Hereford, and she now lives in Ledbury. We had a very enjoyable visit to Weston's last time we went down, if somewhat frustrating (I could only bring away as much cider as I could physically carry in my already fairly heavy luggage)

We don't do too badly in Manchester - several supermarkets stock fairly good bottled stuff - but I wish we had the sort of pubs you find in the west country, with an anonymous barrel on the end of the bar...
