A week or two back, representatives of my company [i.e. the company I work for] met with representatives of the GISC, the current regulatory body of the UK insurance industry, to discuss the regulatory implications of selling insurance online. One of the comments from them was that my company accounts for the vast majority of the online quote systems in the UK.

I was a lead programmer on that project for about two years. My code appears to be responsible for selling a very large portion of the personal lines insurance policies sold online in the UK in the last 3-4 years.

Cool.

I can't claim all the credit, by any means (I could name several other people who made huge contributions) but, still.

[someone stop me before I can't get my head through doorways any more]

I'm now heavily involved in designing the "next generation" system to replace it, which, despite lots of niggles, is shaping up nicely, and I'm enjoying it. Given the amount of grief other people are having with IT employment, I feel almost insufferably smug. Sorry.
