That makes two...

NASA's second Mars Exploration Rover, Opportunity, has landed safely on Meridiani Planum and is sending back its first pictures.

Cor! That's quite a different view from Spirit's - it will be interesting to see what it comes up with. Those round markings on the ground do look spookily like footprints...

It is rather different, isn't it? IIRC, this is the first probe to land at a higher altitude - previous ones, all the way back to the Vikings, went to the lowlands.
