Earlier this week, I had a bit of time to kill at Manchester Piccadilly station. So I went and browsed the racks in the small HMV store in the station concourse, where I found a copy of The Wall on CD, retailing for the ludicrous sum of £31.

I had to triple-check to make sure I hadn't misread it. OK, it's a double album, so I expect the price to be a bit above average, but that's just taking the piss.

31 quid?

It's 14.99 delivered from play.com

And so's the SACD version (Live in Berlin version)

While the DVDs are only 10.99 each!

Eminently more reasonable. I have it already, I was just totally croggled by the price they were asking...

Which reminds me of an incident a few years ago when I was having a look through a chain cd store. In the independant rack was a single going for the impressive sum of $16. I queried the gnome behind the counter who informed me that because it was independant they couldn't sell it for less that $16, even though it only had 4 tracks on it. I laughed and left the cd on the counter, explaining that the non-chain cd store half an hour away had already sold me this for $8. The gnome didn't even blink. I don't think gnomes understand any verbal exchange which does end in the other party offering them money.
